The Carlisle Journeys schedule for October 6, 2018 will include opening and closing speaker presentations with three panel discussions comprised of boarding school descendants who are willing to share their thoughts about, stories of and/or responses to their ancestors’ boarding school experiences. These three panels will be focused on three themes:
Morning panel: Finding a safe space for descendants at the CIIS site, restoring the farmhouse where Outing students were trained. Moderated by Fr. Louellyn White, granddaughter of farmhouse Outing student.
Afternoon panel: CIIS descendant responses to their families’ enrollment in the school. Moderated by Ory Cuellar, daughter of the late, last living student enrolled at the school.
Afternoon panel: Indian Country Today manifested by the strength of Indian people, their sustaining culture and the government to government relationships to those who are still here. Moderated by Gary Gordon, past chair of the Carlisle Journeys committee.
We welcome participation by descendants and ask that those who would like to be on one of the panels, please email a brief description of your intention to the committee.
